Lithium or the classic lead-acid?
This is perhaps the best question to start with. Which technology should I choose based on my needs? What are the main differences between the two? Lithium and lead-acid batteries fundamentally serve the same purpose: storing electrical energy as chemical energy for later use as electrical energy. However, the way they do this differs entirely, resulting in some important distinctions:

Discover the most important distinctions between lithium or lead-acid.
Charge Cycles
Lead-acid batteries typically have a charge cycle range of 100 to 500. For instance, the Victron AGM Super Cycle Battery is tested for at least 300 full charge cycles. Lithium-ion batteries, on the other hand, significantly outperform this, reaching up to 5000 charge cycles. Victron's Lithium-NG batteries are a perfect example of this. Lithium batteries retain their capacity better over time and perform more efficiently.
The question is: How frequently will you use your batteries? How quickly do you want to replace them? Answering these questions will make the choice between these technologies much easier!
Energy Density
Lithium-ion batteries generally have a higher energy density than lead-acid batteries, meaning they can store more energy per unit of weight or volume. For mobile projects where system weight and space are critical, Lithium is often the obvious choice.
Cost
Lithium batteries are often more expensive upfront than their traditional lead-acid counterparts. However, if we consider the cost per cycle, the picture changes significantly. For projects where the battery is used daily, Lithium proves to be the most economical choice in the long run. For UPS systems where the battery is only used during occasional power outages, Victron’s lead-acid Telecom Batteries are a logical choice.

How big should my battery be?
At All-Spark, we offer batteries ranging from 12V 30Ah to battery packs of 48V with almost 200kWh. Each project has its specific storage capacity requirements. When determining the number of batteries needed, consider two key aspects:
- What capacity do I need?
- What devices do you have, and how long do you plan to use them?
These two factors determine how much energy you need to store. Below is a simple calculation example to help you. Would you prefer assistance from an expert? Feel free to contact us for support with your projects.
The example below is based on a customer project to install an energy system in a Tiny House.
You determine which devices are present, their power consumption, and how many hours they’ll be used. The simultaneity factor helps determine the required power.
Total: 1671.5W / 3.61kWh
From this fictitious power table, we calculate the necessary capacity for the project.

What power should my batteries deliver?
Besides the amount of energy a battery can store, we also need to consider how quickly the battery can deliver this energy. This relates to the battery’s power output, which must be sufficient to ensure your system operates correctly.
The world of battery solutions is vast, and at All-Spark, we understand it can be overwhelming. That’s why our team of experts is ready to assist you. We want to help you make the right decisions, ensuring both you and your customers are satisfied.
